Finally, Quito

Quito Hotel Roofline

After a tearful goodbye to friends and family and a long day of travel, we arrived safely in Quito last night. We were able to get a good night’s rest and awoke to a beautiful day. We are taking it easy today, acclimating ourselves to the altitude and planning our time in Ecuador. Good stuff to come.

I’ve been trying to decide where to stay in Quito when I’m there in January. Which hotel are you at, and would you recommend it?

Can you believe you’re finally doing it? Congrats! Looking forward to sharing the journey with you.

Yay Congrats!

And by now you must be realizing the little truth about big drastic changes… You’re in Quito, but it feels much the same as yesterday, just somewhere new. After all the planning, prep and effort, there should at least be a big banner or some fireworks!

Well at least that’s what I thought when I landed in Spain, and it just felt like a tuesday. I think it took me a little while for my brain to catch up with my body and to realize, oh right, I am actually living in a foreign country! How are the kids?

I can’t recall our hotel name there, but it was just up a little walkway from the main piazza. That Piazza has free WIFI and a large beautiful fountain, not to mention the magnificent church right there. Heading off down a single lane road beside the church is a “slightly” famous multi-cut stone in the wall that everyone wants to see. How’re everyone’s lungs???

At last, you are really gone. We’re living vicariously in Northern Virginia. Can’t wait to read the book.

Godspeed and have fun.

Dani, Craig, Caroline and Conor,

Hopefully you are well on your way to lesson number one: while Americans have no patience with those who are not proficient in the English language, Latinos are completely the opposite with theirs! Take this opportunity to test your Spanish wings. I found that my time in remote areas of Mexico and the Dominican Republic really helped me to learn that beautiful language. It helps to go to places where you will have to speak Spanish and it also provides you an opportunity to see rural Ecuador and as we all know the rural areas are where the “real” people live :o) I am overwhelmed with joy for you guys and will try not to write incessantly but no promises; it is the mother in me.

Awesome, you’re finally traveling!

I’ve been following your blog for a few months now, I believe I found it through Mark Hayward’s, but I’m not sure anymore 🙂 However, I’m excited to see you take the year off to travel as a family, and wish you an interesting, life-changing adventure!

Have a great trip, and most of all, have fun!
